Things I’m into right now.

The blue fringe bag is $29.99 at target and it is the perfect urban boho accessary.  The tapestry clutch, is a little hipster chic and is also from target for $16.99.  The strapless pink dress, again, from Target is $69.99.  I think that everyone should own something this girly and elegant.  I’ve been looking for the perfect vintage inspired bubblegum dress for awhile now and this one is just perfect.  In my quest for “Bat Out Of Hell” on vinyl I always seem to come across bunk copies that are too damaged to consider buying.  I’m trying the ebay thing right now.  The gold cross bracelet is from Lori’s Shoes and is $14.95 — or you can find a cheaper version on ebay, which is what I did for about $4 – a total bargain for such a stylish and simple piece.  The sunglasses I also found on ebay for about $10 and are a GREAT pair of round frame glasses.  ”Bird by bird” is a tattoo I want to get on my wrist.  I’ve been playing around with fonts and I really like this one.  Bird by Bird is one of my favorite books, by Anne Lamott.  It’s sort of a writing how-to that doesn’t take itself too seriously.  It means a lot to me because it makes me excited to write and sometimes that’s a really important thing.  I also really love the metaphor of taking life one bird at a time.

Weekend Getaway

This past weekend, I took two days off and flew to LA with my boyfriend to spend a long weekend with a couple of his friends.  It was fun to get away from the city and enjoy some sunshine (and shopping).  I found some GEMS at the Buffalo Exchange in West Hollywood, a dangerous walking distance from where we were staying.  I got a denim vest for $8 and a stunning vintage dress for $36.  I’ll be posting pictures of my finds soon enough.  The dress needs to be altered slightly (by my amazing seamstress mother).  We took a break from shopping to go to the Chateau Marmont where we sipped some fabulous Riesling and ate some pretty great crab cakes.  Of course, we  visited some incredible Mexican restaurants.  Overall, though the trip was nice, I’m glad to be back in NY.  Someone snapped this great picture of me and my boyfriend at Antonio’s on Melrose.  We don’t usually photograph this well, being that we’re a couple of goofs, so I had to post it.

Summertime Inspiration

Summertime is just around the corner and I couldn’t be happier about it.  My house in Jersey is undergoing some serious renovations and by summer it will be the perfect getaway house complete with a brand new deck and fire pit.  Pretty stoked to get away from the city and throw some parties.  Mostly though, I’m just excited to start wearing summer clothes.  I’m so tired of jackets and sweaters and practicality.  Here are some outfits I put together for inspiration.

Kit Oh Nein! Review

Check out my review on Kit Oh Nein! for The Deli Magazine

Kit Oh Nein! is the latest musical endeavor of The Hotwalls’ singer, Ryan Milligan. Their debut album, which was written entirely by Milligan, is a departure from previous projects into a more distorted and reverb-happy version of an indie pop group. “KON!”, an acronym for the band’s name, is a fast moving album with an average track time of around two minutes. The album has a distinctive garage band sound with a polished indie twist and the songs are a disorienting trip down the rabbit hole. Echoing vocals, guitar reverb and spacey organ riffs give Kit Oh Nein!’s songs a dream-like quality.

The Pretty Reckless’ new EP “Hit Me Like A Man”

Check out my my Pretty Reckless review for The Deli Magazine!

Fronted by Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen, NYC’s The Pretty Reckless combines killer lyrics with seriously spirited guitar riffs on the debut album, “Light Me Up.” Momsen’s voice is a perfect accompaniment to the band’s solid alt-rock sound – adding a feminine and yet dangerous edge to the music. Momsen, who is just 18, wrote all the songs on the album, with the band’s lead guitarist, Ben Phillips. Their breakout hit, “Make Me Wanna Die” caught the attention of hard-rock loyalists everywhere, while the ballad “You” (see its rather sensual official video here) took care of the layer of fans more interested in sentimental values. Their second EP, “Hit Me Like a Man,” is set to be released on March 6th and will feature three new songs and two live songs from their “Light Me Up” tour.

Heart of Gold

On Sunday night, me and boyfriend went to the Standard Hotel to see his friend, Jonah Ansell, premiere his new short film, “Cadaver”.  The premiere took place during fashion week and there were definitely some interesting and unique fashion choices on display.  Tavi Gevinson, the young blogger who became famous for her daring fashion choices attended the premiere after lending her voice to the animated short.  Additionally, Gevinson got Neil Young’s personal permission to cover ”Heart of Gold” for the short; an honor many talented musicians would kill for.  The sweetness in her voice is as endearing as it is unique and it’s easy to see why Young gave permission to her rendition.  Here is the beautiful cover, which someone artfully put together much better than I could’ve iPhoned it.

Rayanne Graff

I’ve been rewatching My So Called Life and I’ve gotten a bit inspired by Rayanne’s style. It’s very 90s and verging on ridiculous, but it’s definitely got something cool and very now about it. Here’s my up-to-date homage to Rayanne.

20120207-104932.jpg

I’m wearing a flowy, beige chiffon dress from H&M, flower tights from Forever 21 (very 90s), vintage Star Wars t-shirt, Guess combat boots and an American Eagle cardigan. I was going to add a plaid flannel in place of the cardigan, but I thought that would be a little crazy, even for my office.

Bracelets

I got these new bracelets.  How fun are they?

The bow bracelet is from Forever 21 and was about $7 and the other two bracelets were from Charlotte Russe and were about $13 (total).  So they were combined only $20!
